Virtual Product

A virtual product is something you sell that isn't shipped, such as a membership, a service, a gift card or a monthly pass. It works like a simple product, without shipping: it has no weight or dimensions, and shoppers don't enter a shipping address or choose a shipping method when their cart holds only products that aren't shipped.

Create a virtual product

Create the product as described in Create a product, choosing Virtual as the Type.

How it differs from a simple product

• No Shipping section: there's no weight or size to enter.
• No RMA section: virtual products can't be returned through RMA.
• Stock still counts: the Inventories section is there, so you can limit how many you sell, such as 100 event passes. The back-order setting doesn't apply: once the stock runs out, the product can't be bought until you add more.
• Customizable options: like a simple product, a virtual product can have a Customizable Item section, such as a name to print on a gift card. See Customizable options.

A virtual product page looks like a simple product's: shoppers choose a quantity and add it to the cart.
